At Kipini Integrated Community Enterprise (KICE), we believe that a healthy environment is the foundation of a thriving community. That is why our Environmental Conservation Initiative has been one of our most impactful programmes since our founding in 2010.
Protecting Tana River’s Mangrove Ecosystems
The mangrove forests along Kipini’s coastline are vital to local livelihoods — providing nursery grounds for fish, protecting the shoreline from erosion, and supporting biodiversity. Over the past year, KICE mobilised over 200 community members to participate in mangrove restoration activities, planting more than 5,000 seedlings across a 12-kilometre stretch of the Tana Delta.
Community-Led Conservation Groups
We work directly with 30 registered conservation groups in the Kipini area. Each group receives training in sustainable land use, waste management, and climate-resilient farming practices. Our field officers conduct monthly visits to support and monitor progress.

Looking Ahead
In the coming months, KICE will launch a new tree nursery in partnership with the Tana River County government, targeting the production of 20,000 indigenous tree seedlings for distribution to community households. We invite partners, donors, and volunteers to join us in this effort.
