Education is a cornerstone of KICE’s mission to empower communities in Kipini. Through our Community Empowerment Programme, we have been investing in skills development and adult literacy to help residents build sustainable livelihoods.
Adult Literacy Classes Graduate 80 Learners
KICE’s Adult Literacy Programme recently celebrated the graduation of 80 learners from Kipini and surrounding areas. The six-month course, delivered by trained volunteer facilitators, covered reading, writing, numeracy, and practical life skills including financial literacy and record-keeping for small businesses.
Many of the graduates are women who had previously been excluded from formal education. The programme is designed to be flexible — classes are held in the evenings and on weekends to accommodate participants with farming and household responsibilities.
Youth Skills Training
In addition to adult literacy, KICE runs vocational skills training workshops for youth aged 18–35. This year, 60 young people completed training in tailoring, solar panel installation, and sustainable aquaculture — skills directly relevant to livelihoods in the coastal Kipini economy.
